MSO Manifesto

Working together to inspire running

  • We are an forum for organisers of running events and running initiatives that share a common mission: to inspire running.
  • We exist with the aim of supporting our organisations to achieve our vision of inspiring running.
  • We believe that by harnessing the collective power of our organisations, each organisation can benefit, and this in turn will benefit the sport of running.
  • We will, for our organisations:
    • Be a powerful public advocate for the sport of running, working at all times to encourage more people to take part in running events;
    • Be a trusted knowledge base for the staging of events which are safe, inclusive and sustainable;
    • Be an authority on runners and the motivations for running;
    • Provide visible leadership and a collective voice for event organisers with high level stakeholders; and,
    • Take no action that creates barriers for participation in running, discourages people to run, damages the reputation of the sport.

Introduction:
MSO has created four working groups to maximise our expertise and impact; these groups meet on a regular basis and report back to the main group meeting. The four groups are focused on Advocacy, Growth of the Market, Sustainability and Operations.

Advocacy
By collaborating we believe we have a stronger voice and can use our voice to influence politically, socially and economically to inspire running. The group is chaired by Paul Foster from the Great Run Company.

Growth of the Market
Our businesses exist to provide opportunities for people to engage with mass participation running event experiences; this group seeks to maximise the ways in which the general public can participate with us and to keep doing so on a regular basis. This group is chaired by Hugh Brasher from London Marathon Events.

Sustainability
This was the founding reason for the formation of MSO; the group explores how the industry and our businesses embrace the challenges faced to ensure we become more environmentally sustainable. The group is chaired by Matt Wood from Run Through.

Operations
Our companies have created and organised the biggest mass participation running events in the UK; this group seeks to share good practice and discuss solutions for the delivery challenges we face. This group is chaired by Judith Manson from Goldline Events.
